Good Website
www.printmagazine.com
The website for Print magazine is one of my favourites. Firstly, the title - both the name of the magazine and its motto grab attention. It has a very aesthetically pleasing look that's not just easy to navigate through but also very effectively allows navigators to feel as though they had just stepped into an artsy environment. The white background allows the articles and images displayed there to really pop out. This is important because it must be kept in mind that this is after all an art and design website and the illustrations displayed here need to pop out and attract navigators.
As soon as you enter the website, it becomes clear what the website (and thus the magazine) is about. Its browser tabs are very conveniently located in the center so that navigators can easily browse through the website and find their points of interests easily. Moreover, the website provides highlights about the new things they want to spread the word about-- for example competitions, recent changes in the design world, updates on design related softwares etc. The website provides a huge range of information associated with the art and design world and it's great e-place to just chill at for any art enthusiast who's interested in what's going on in the art world now.
Bad Website
The worst website that I came across truly lives up to its name - it's literally called 'The bad website' (http://thebadwebsite.com/). As soon as you enter the site, you are bombarded with blinding colours of all sorts. It's practically impossible to really read anything on the site and although I spent some time clicking around, I still couldn't figure out what it really is about. The links posted there direct you to random articles which don't seem to have any relevance with anything that's on the website. It's extremely irritating to browse through it and visually disturbing, not to mention annoying. Some may argue however, the site can indeed be called a 'good' website since it truly adheres to its name. But I must ask - why must such a website exist at all? Surely when someone creates a website, he/she creates it because he/she expects people to read it. Besides, the website tries to communicate directly to its readers. However, this 'bad website' concept could've been, in my opinion, executed cleverly - with humour and wit. It could've been a site where people could get access to random, entertaining things on the website (www.bored.com is a good example). It could've even retained its tacky use of colour if only it contained some composition and organization. But no, this website is neither funny nor interesting and is a total waste of time. It just dosen't work.
